A 5k that works out your brain!

Solve escape-room-style puzzles as you run / walk

Family-friendly event – work together as a team

Use a webapp in your phone's browser to get hints, solve puzzles, see times, etc.

Combine Parkrun with an escape room, and you get Puzzlerun.

Here's what to expect:

Step 0: Form a team of up to 4 players (purchase one ticket per player). At least one player on your team will need a working smartphone or tablet that can access the internet on the day (the more the merrier!). You'll use your device to input answers, get hints, and see your times as you go. If no one on your team has a smartphone on the day, your team will be unable to participate.

You'll be free to join up with other folks and re-form teams as needed - they're not locked in until you start.

Step 1: Arrive. Once you arrive at the venue, make your way to the starting area. Feel free to ask questions to anyone wearing a Puzzlerun hi-viz vest.

Step 2: Stretch. As your wave time approaches, make your way to the starting area to stretch and get started. When your wave time arrives, open up the webapp and hit 'GO!'.

Step 3: Go! Run or walk 500 meters to the first puzzle station. When you get there, type the four-digit code from the sign into the webapp to get started with the puzzle (this stops your 'running' timer and starts your 'puzzling' timer).

Step 4: Solve the puzzle. Type your guesses and get hints in the webapp. When you solve the puzzle, you'll see a checkmark in the webapp – well done! Get moving to the next puzzle station.

Step 5: Finish strong. Your time stops when you finish the 10th puzzle after 5km. Get your medal, take some selfies, and celebrate!

How does the timing work?

The webapp's timer automatically switches from 'running' to 'puzzling' when you type in the four-digit code on the sign. It's like 'checking in' to the station.

The webapp's timer automatically switches from 'puzzling time' to 'running time' when you've typed in the correct answer to the puzzle. It's like 'checking out' from the station.

It's all set up to be as simple and smooth as possible - and your time can always be seen at the top of the webapp. When you're all done, you can see your times broken down by each run and puzzle!

What's the course like?

Flat smooth tarmac - this is on the 1km cycling loop at the York Sport Village, the same site as the Heslington Parkrun.

What else to expect?

* A fun medal

* A bag drop (items left at own risk)

* Toilets, drinks and snacks available at the nearby cafe

* A fun time!
